ABOUT THE TRILOGY
Created out of a collaboration on a new play about blue jeans ("DENIM") that was stopped from a full production due to Covid-19, each film in The Denim Trilogy was written by Savannah Reich, with direction from Lisa Channer and Savannah Reich. The three films were official selections in film festivals such as the Berlin International Art Film Festival, Amsterdam Short Film Festival, and Toronto International Women Film Festival, and have won several festival awards including:
The Bill Murray Comedy Shorts Award at Twin Cities Film Fest 2020 (Men Among Men), Winner of Best Comedy, Best Western, and Best Director the Cowpokes Int'l Film Festival 2023 (Standoff), and Best Ensemble Comedy Short Film at the Yale in Hollywood Fest 2024 (The Girls at the Painted Bird).
This series of Feminist Western shorts subverts the genre to propose a new frontier; one where cowboys hug it out, female business owners finish first, and outlaws aren’t afraid to cry. A new mythology of the American West is imagined: not as it was, but as it might have been.
ABOUT EACH FILM
Men Among Men (2021): A group of prospectors in gold rush California wrestle with ideas about masculinity. Part consciousness-raising group, part fight club, these cowboys are determined to figure out how they can be good men.
Standoff (2022): A Mid-Western. A standoff that does not go as expected.
The Girls at the Painted Bird (2024): A group of “fallen women” in the Old West get rich quick when they discover the true gold rush – charging men for their emotional labor.
